Overview

Trek to the sacred alpine mirror of Lengga Co at 4,550 m for a face-to-face audience with Mt. Gongga, the 'King of Sichuan Peaks,' on this high-altitude 3-day Tibetan-plateau adventure.

About This Tour

This private 3-day high-altitude trek is a pilgrimage to one of western Sichuan's most coveted views: Lengga Co, a sacred glacial lake at 4,550 meters that mirrors Mt. Gongga (Minya Konka, 7,556 m), the 'King of Sichuan Peaks.' From Chengdu you cross the Zheduo Mountain pass to Xinduqiao - 'the photographer's paradise' - then continue into the Tibetan valleys around Juli Monastery, with a chance to catch Gongga and Yala peaks framed together from the cliff-edge viewing platform. The heart of the trip is the trek itself: from the village of Bamujide you climb roughly 5.5 km one-way (about 600 m of ascent) past prayer flags and white stupas to the lakeshore, where, if the gods are kind, the sacred summit floats inverted on still water. You overnight in an authentic Tibetan homestay in Shangmuju, sharing the rhythm of plateau life. This is a genuine high-mountain experience: thin air, basic but warm accommodation, and weather that writes its own rules - but the reward is one of China's most spectacular and spiritual landscapes, far from the crowds. Best in late spring through autumn; pack serious warm layers and acclimatize sensibly. Suitable for fit, adventurous travelers. Itinerary may adjust based on weather, road and local regulations. Good to know: • Best season: late spring to autumn (high passes may close in deep winter) • Altitude: trek starts at 3,950 m and tops out at 4,550 m - acclimatize and watch for AMS • Fitness level: challenging; ~10 km round-trip trek with 600 m ascent at altitude • Homestay is basic Tibetan multi-bed lodging with limited hot water - come prepared • Some viewpoints reached by paid local transfer vehicles; pack warm layers and snacks

Itinerary

Day 1: Chengdu - Kangding - Xinduqiao

Depart Chengdu around 07:30 and drive west, reaching Kangding near midday for lunch. Continue over the Zheduo Mountain pass and descend to Xinduqiao, the legendary 'photographer's paradise' of golden meadows, willow groves, and wood-smoke villages. After checking into your hotel, head out to a top viewing platform - the well-known Yuzixi terrace if open, otherwise the Balangshengdu or Gongga viewpoint - for a stirring view of Gongga and Yala peaks side by side. Note that access to Yuzixi uses a paid transfer vehicle (about RMB 60/person round-trip) and may require advance reservation or be substituted depending on conditions. Drive: about 6 hours. Meals: lunch and dinner free choice (AA). Overnight: hotel in Xinduqiao (may shift to Jiagenba or Shade town on holidays).

Day 2: Bamujide - Lengga Co Sacred Lake Trek - Shangmuju

After breakfast, drive to the trailhead at Bamujide and prepare a packed lunch. From the white stupa it is roughly 4 km to the lake (about 5.5 km from the village edge), climbing some 600 m over around two hours; the route starts near 3,950 m and tops out at 4,550 m. When the trail is clear of ice you may rent a local horse to carry gear or ride up (own expense). Crest the final rise to Lengga Co, a sacred mirror lake set beneath Mt. Gongga - in still weather the great peak floats upside down on its surface. Spend time in this 'realm of the gods' for photos and quiet awe, then begin the descent around 16:30 back to your Tibetan homestay. Trek: ~8-10 km round trip, start 3,950 m, high point 4,550 m, ~600 m ascent. Meals: included simple homestay dinner; lunch is a packed/AA meal. Overnight: Tibetan multi-bed homestay (shared room) in Shangmuju/Bamujide.

Day 3: Shangmuju - Chengdu

Rise early to a vast plateau sky, enjoy breakfast, then load up and begin the long, scenic drive back to Chengdu (about 9 hours), retracing the high passes and Tibetan valleys with plenty of photo stops along the way. Arrive at the Chengdu meeting point around 18:00, where this three-day Lengga Co adventure - and your audience with the King of Sichuan Peaks - comes to a close. For onward travel, book departures after roughly 22:00 to allow for traffic. Drive: about 9 hours. Meals: breakfast included; lunch and dinner free choice. Overnight: not included (departure day).
