Libo Xiaoqikong & Wudong Miao Village 4-Day Private Tour

★★★★★ 4.8 (131)⏱ 4 days and 1 hour · Private🗣 English guide

Overview

A 4-day private Guizhou journey from the UNESCO karst waterscapes of Libo's Xiaoqikong to a living-culture Yao stockade and the cool, tucked-away Wudong Miao village.

About This Tour

This relaxed private tour traces the arc from natural World Heritage to living ethnic culture in southern Guizhou. The scenic heart is the Libo karst, part of the South China Karst UNESCO World Heritage Site, where Xiaoqikong dazzles with the Layan Waterfall, the emerald Water-on-Forest pools and Mandarin-Duck Lake, while neighbouring Daqikong reveals the dramatic Terror Gorge and the natural rock arch of Tianshengqiao. Culture comes alive at Yaoshan Ancient Stockade, home to the White-Trouser Yao, often called 'a living fossil of primitive society', where weaving, dyeing, brewing and rituals are still everyday practice and evenings end in firelit dancing. The finale is Wudong Miao village, a real-world Shangri-La of stilt houses, streams and waterfalls where summer highs reach just 26 degrees Celsius; here you slow down, walk the village with a local guide, brew rice wine by hand, pound glutinous rice cakes and try catching fish in the paddies. Travelling with your own English-speaking guide and private vehicle, this trip suits families, culture lovers and anyone seeking a gentle, immersive pace. Best from spring to autumn. Itinerary may adjust based on weather, road and local regulations. Good to know: • Best season: spring to autumn; pleasantly cool in summer (Wudong highs around 26 C) • Fitness level: easy, scenic-area walking and gentle village strolls • Paddy fish-catching is seasonal (roughly May to October) • Roads to Wudong are mountainous; pack a light layer as evenings can be cool even in summer • Default rooms are twins; solo travellers may incur a single-room supplement

Itinerary

1

Day 1: Arrival in Duyun | Libo & Yaoshan Ancient Stockade

Meet your guide in Duyun and drive about 1.5 hours to a hotel in Libo town to check in and rest. In the afternoon, visit Yaoshan Ancient Stockade, where culture is lived rather than displayed; the White-Trouser Yao here are described as 'a living fossil of primitive society', still practising bamboo weaving, cloth weaving, dyeing, brewing and ritual as part of daily life. As night falls, join hands around the bonfire for traditional dancing, the firelight and laughter making for a warm, genuine welcome. Meals: none included on arrival. Overnight in Libo.

Day 2: Xiaoqikong & Daqikong to Wudong Miao Village

After breakfast, drive about 30 minutes to the Libo karst. Beat the crowds for an unhurried tour of Xiaoqikong, taking in the Layan Waterfall cascading down the mountainside, the otherworldly Water-on-Forest pools where you can wade among submerged trees, and serene Mandarin-Duck Lake. In the afternoon, explore Daqikong, walking the dramatic Terror Gorge and marvelling at Tianshengqiao, a vast natural rock arch carved by nature. Then drive about 2.5 hours to Wudong Miao village, a hidden valley with summer highs of only 26 degrees Celsius and a year-round average of 12.4 C; its stilt houses climb the hillsides amid drifting cooking smoke like a scene from a dream. Meals: breakfast. Overnight in Wudong village guesthouse.

Day 3: Wudong Miao Village Slow Day

Spend a gentle day immersed in village life. In the morning, follow a local guide through the stockade as three streams thread between the tiered stilt houses, joining to form a soft, white ribbon of waterfall; rest at the wind-and-rain bridge and breathe the forest air. In the afternoon, visit the village rice-wine workshop, where a Miao distiller shares the story of Wudong rice wine and guides you through steaming the rice, mixing the starter and watching fermentation, before the first clear, sweet drops drip from the still, a cup you can take home. Then pound glutinous rice cakes or, in season (May to October), try catching fish in the paddies. On clear nights, watch the stars and listen to the healing chorus of insects by the fields. Meals: breakfast. Overnight in Wudong village guesthouse.

Day 4: Wudong Miao Village | Departure from Duyun

Wake naturally and pack at an easy pace. Around mid-morning, your private vehicle departs Wudong for Duyun East Railway Station (drive approx 2 hours), timed for departures around midday to early afternoon. Drive times and departure timing depend on your onward train or flight schedule. Meals: breakfast.
