Overview
A 6-day private tour through Guangxi's karst dreamscape, from the volcanic beaches of Weizhou Island to Asia's largest transnational waterfall at Detian and the idyllic Mingshi pastoral valley.
About This Tour
This 6-day private tour reveals the softer, more romantic side of Guangxi, beyond the famous Li River. Cross by ferry to Weizhou Island, China's youngest volcanic island, to watch sunrise over the Five-Color Beach, explore the Crocodile Hill geological park's lava cliffs and a 19th-century French Catholic church, and feel the slow pace of island life. On the mainland, drift through the karst peaks of the Anping 'fairy river' by boat, then stand before the thundering Detian Waterfall, the largest transnational waterfall in Asia, half in China and half in Vietnam, where the water tumbles in three great tiers down a 70 m cliff. Finish in the postcard-perfect Mingshi pastoral valley, cycling or strolling between sugarcane and rice paddies framed by mist-wrapped karst hills. With your own English-speaking guide, private vehicle and comfortable 4-star hotels, it is ideal for couples, families and photographers. Best from spring to autumn, outside typhoon peaks. Itinerary may adjust based on weather, road and local regulations. Good to know: • Best season: spring to autumn; avoid typhoon peaks in late summer • Fitness level: easy, light walking and optional flat cycling • Weizhou Island ferries run on a real-name quota system; book early, especially in summer and holidays • Ferries may be suspended in bad weather, in which case the island days are rescheduled • Bring sun protection, swimwear and a light rain layer
Itinerary
1
Day 1: Nanning | Arrival
Arrive in Nanning, the green capital of Guangxi, and make your own way to the centrally located meeting hotel. The rest of the day is free: early arrivals can stroll South Lake Park or graze the street-food stalls of Zhongshan Road. Your guide confirms the itinerary and shares practical tips for the days ahead. This is a relaxed arrival day with no scheduled activities, so you can recover from travel before the adventure begins. Meals on your own. Overnight in central Nanning. (no meals)

Day 2: Beihai & Weizhou Island
Drive about 230 km (3.5 hrs) to the seaside city of Beihai and walk its nearly two-hundred-year-old Old Street, a 1.4 km stretch of Chinese-Western arcade architecture full of cafes and local snacks like shrimp cakes and rice rolls. In the afternoon board the ferry (about 2 hrs) to Weizhou Island, China's largest and youngest volcanic island. After checking in, head to the Dripping Crystal Screen cliffs to watch the sun set over the sea as spring water trickles down the rock face like a beaded curtain. Overnight in a Weizhou Island garden-view 4-star hotel. (B)

Day 3: Weizhou Island Round-Island Tour
Spend the day circling the island by shuttle. Begin at the Five-Color Beach at dawn, where layered reef rocks glow in shifting colors under the rising sun (sleeping in is fine too). Continue to Shiluokou Beach to see rare wave-cut rock formations sculpted over millennia, then relax at Nanwan Beach with its seaside cafes and seafood street. In the afternoon explore the Crocodile Hill Geological Park, where lava from eruptions 2.5 million to 7,000 years ago has been carved by the sea into surreal shapes. Finish along the seafood street, sampling the island's catch at a leisurely island pace. Overnight on Weizhou Island. (B)

Day 4: Weizhou Island to Chongzuo
Sleep in or rent a scooter for a free morning exploring the island's quiet corners and sunrise beaches. As a group, visit the French Catholic Church, a national heritage site and one of the four great late-Qing churches in China, begun by French missionaries in 1853, where light streams through the stained glass. Around midday check out and take the ferry back to Beihai, then drive about 3.5 hrs to the border city of Chongzuo, gateway to the Detian waterfall region. Overnight in a Chongzuo hotel. (B)
5
Day 5: Anping River & Detian Waterfall
After breakfast visit the Anping 'fairy river' (Dongnayuwan) scenic area, a karst landscape of jagged peaks and emerald water nicknamed 'another Li River'; cruise by boat to a flower-filled island, then walk a roughly 3 km boardwalk back to the gate. In the afternoon reach the star of the trip, the Detian Transnational Waterfall, the largest cross-border waterfall in Asia, shared half by China and half by Vietnam, where the current plunges 70 m down a cliff in three roaring tiers. Take in the falls from multiple viewing platforms, with an optional border bamboo raft to drift close to the spray. Continue to a resort hotel ringed by karst hills near Mingshi. Drive segments total about 4 hrs. Overnight at Mingshi resort. (B)
6
Day 6: Mingshi Pastoral & Departure
Begin with a gentle morning in the Mingshi pastoral valley, cycling (or walking, about 5 km) the riverside greenway past rice and sugarcane fields, with karst peaks mirrored in the calm Mingshi River and barely a crowd in sight, the very image of an idyllic Chinese countryside. Those who prefer can simply enjoy the resort's mountain-and-water setting over a slow breakfast. Around midday check out and drive about 190 km back toward Nanning, with drop-off at Nanning airport (around 15:30-16:00) and Nanning East railway station (around 16:30-17:00); please book onward travel after 18:00 to allow buffer. (B)
