Overview

A gentle private 3-day trek through the streams, ancient stone paths and crowd-free corners of Yandangshan, a UNESCO Global Geopark famed for its surreal volcanic peaks and luminous night scenery.

About This Tour

Yandang Mountain (Yandangshan) in southern Zhejiang is a UNESCO Global Geopark, celebrated for its rhyolite peaks, sheer cliffs, plunging waterfalls and the famous shape-shifting night scenery of Lingfeng. This private 3-day tour trades the tour-bus crowds for easy walking trails: streamside paths, boardwalks and old stone bridges leading to lesser-known spots like Yanwei (Swallowtail) Waterfall and the quiet Jinzhu Stream, then a second day exploring the Lingyan scenic area with its Dragon-Nose Cave, the clear Wolong Pool and an optional glass walkway, where a daily high-wire acrobatics show plays out against the cliffs. Daily hikes are short and entry-level (about 5–12 km), so it suits first-time trekkers, families and travellers who want world-class geology at a relaxed pace, with evenings free to wander the town, watch the celebrated Lingfeng night silhouettes and feast on local Wenzhou seafood. Best enjoyed spring through autumn. Itinerary may adjust based on weather, road and local regulations. Good to know: • Best season: spring to autumn; misty weather can change visibility of peaks and waterfalls • Fitness level: easy – Day 2 covers ~12 km with ~500 m ascent on gentle old paths, Day 3 ~5 km on trails, steps and boardwalks • Wear trekking shoes with good grip; stone paths can be slippery after rain • Those with a fear of heights can stay to the inner side of the Wolong glass walkway • Scenic-area routes may be adjusted or capacity-limited during public holidays

Itinerary

1

Day 1: Arrival in Yandang Town

Meet at the appointed departure point and set off mid-morning by private vehicle for the roughly 5–6 hour transfer south to Yandang Town in Wenzhou. Settle into your hotel, rest and acclimatise for the next day's walking. There is no hiking today, so it is a relaxed travel day – bring some snacks for the road. In the evening you are free to stroll the small town, sample local Wenzhou street food and seafood, and get a first taste of the laid-back mountain-town atmosphere before the trekking begins. Meals: dinner free. Accommodation: standard ensuite twin in Yandang Town.

Day 2: Huanshan Village → Swallowtail Waterfall → Jinzhu Stream | ~12 km Easy Trek

After breakfast, drive around 8:30 to the trailhead at Huanshan Village for today's easy stream trek (about 12 km, ~500 m cumulative ascent, mostly gentle old-path gradients). A quiet trail leads gradually uphill alongside streams, gorges, boardwalks and stone bridges to the tranquil Yanwei (Swallowtail) Waterfall, a pretty, little-visited corner of Yandangshan. Continuing past Huoyan (Flame) Hill, the path threads creeks and tall green bamboo to reach the scenic, crowd-free Jinzhu Stream. Around 16:00 return by vehicle to the hotel to rest. In the evening, view the famous Lingfeng night scene, where the silhouettes of Joined-Palms, Rhino and Twin-Bamboo Peaks shift shape as you move – Yandang's signature spectacle – before a relaxed dinner in town. Meals: hotel breakfast / packed lunch / group or free dinner. Accommodation: standard ensuite twin in Yandang Town.

Day 3: Juexing Hermitage → Lingyan Scenic Area → Return | ~5 km Trek

After breakfast, drive around 8:30 to the trailhead and begin an easy walk (about 5 km on mountain paths, steps and scenic boardwalks). A quiet wooded trail leads up past the old Juexing Hermitage into the Lingyan scenic area, where green cliffs frame the boardwalk. Explore the Dragon-Nose Cave and the crystal-clear Wolong (Crouching Dragon) Pool, where goldfish seem to float in the transparent water, and brave the Wolong glass walkway (stay inside if you fear heights). Below, you can watch the daily high-wire acrobatics show performed against the towering rock faces. Finish the walk around midday for lunch, then depart around 13:30 for the roughly 5–6 hour drive back, arriving about 18:30 to end the tour. Meals: hotel breakfast / group or free lunch. Accommodation: not included (return day).
