Overview
A 2-day private glamping escape to Wangangping's cloud-top plateau, riding Sichuan's longest cableway for grandstand views of sacred Mount Gongga and its starry alpine sky.
About This Tour
Wangangping is one of the finest balconies in western Sichuan for gazing at Mount Gongga (Minya Konka, 7,556m), the 'King of Sichuan's Peaks'. On this easy private tour you trade the city for a cloud-top plateau reached by Sichuan's longest cableway, a 3,450m ride climbing 1,200m at a dramatic 42.7-degree maximum incline. At the Gongga Starry Sky Campsite you settle into a comfortable glamping tent and spend golden hour exploring the Daping plateau, ticking off the Yak Ancient City, the Mirror of the Sky, snow-mountain pastures, the Twilight Forest and the Gongga alpine lakes, with sweeping snow-peak panoramas in every direction. As night falls there are tent-side board games, a glow-stick music party and, on clear nights, a brilliant canopy of stars. The next morning you greet the peaks again from the Sanping viewing area before descending. Travelling with your own English-speaking guide and private vehicle, this is ideal for nature lovers, photographers and families wanting world-class snow-mountain scenery without a hard trek. Best from late spring to autumn for clear skies. Itinerary may adjust based on weather, road and local regulations. Good to know: • Best season: May to October for clearest views of Mount Gongga • Fitness level: easy, short strolls only; suitable for most travellers • The campsite plateau sits at high elevation; nights are cold even in summer, bring warm layers • Long drive days (approx 5.5-6h each way); not ideal for those very prone to car sickness • Solo travellers share a same-gender tent or pay a single-tent supplement

Day 1: Chongqing | Shimian to Wangangping Cloud-Top Camp
Set off early from Chongqing by private vehicle, driving roughly 5.5 hours via mountain expressways and bridges to Shimian county for a local lunch. Continue about one hour to the Wangangping scenic area, where you board Sichuan's longest cableway: a 3,450m ride that climbs 1,200m of vertical gain at up to a 42.7-degree incline, the steepest in the province. A short sightseeing shuttle delivers you to the Gongga Starry Sky Campsite to check into your glamping tent. With your guide, explore the Daping plateau in the soft afternoon light, photographing the Yak Ancient City, Mirror of the Sky, snow-mountain pastures, Twilight Forest and Gongga alpine lakes. Enjoy dinner at the scenic restaurant or a packed meal, then optional board games and a glow-stick music party; clear nights bring dazzling stars. Meals: none included. Overnight in a glamping tent.
