Southern Zhejiang Slow Travel 3-Day Tour: 2 Nights in Painted Canvas Village, Yunhe Terraces & Songyang

★★★★★ 4.8 (54)⏱ 3 days and 1 hour · Private🗣 English guide

Overview

An unhurried private 3-day escape into southern Zhejiang, two nights in a riverside art village, plus the Yunhe rice terraces and Songyang's timeless mountain hamlets.

About This Tour

This is the slow-travel version of southern Zhejiang's classic loop, built around two relaxed nights in the riverside artists' village of Guyan Huaxiang so you can truly unwind. Lishui prefecture is a quiet, deeply scenic corner of eastern China, jade rivers, red-rock peaks, ancient camphor groves and rice terraces that cascade down the mountains. With an English-speaking guide and private vehicle, you'll explore the fairytale Xiandu Scenic Area, drift along the Ou River at Guyan Huaxiang where art students come to paint, choose between the cloud-draped Yunhe rice terraces or the mystical Yunzhong Daji area (the 'Black Myth: Wukong' temple and 1,500-year-old cedar), and wander Songyang's remote villages with their castle-like houses and a CNN-acclaimed cliff-top bookstore. Ideal for travelers who want authentic rural China at a gentle pace, with great photography, local food and minimal driving each day. Best in spring and autumn. Itinerary may adjust based on weather, road and local regulations. Good to know: • Best season: March-May and September-November; firefly season approx. March 15-April 20 (seasonal bonus, weather permitting) • Fitness level: easy; light walking only • Day 2 offers a choice between Yunhe Terraces and Yunzhong Daji; if shared and undecided, Yunhe Terraces is the default • Sea of clouds and sunrise depend on weather • During holidays, shuttle transfer fees to Yangjiatang/Chenjiapu villages may apply on own

Day 1: Jinyun Xiandu & Riverside Painted Canvas Village

Your guide meets you at Jinyun West Station around 11:00-12:00 for a taste of local specialties, Jinyun sesame cakes, pounded-meat soup and hand-pulled noodles. The afternoon unfolds in the otherworldly Xiandu Scenic Area: visit towering Dinghu Peak and the grand Yellow Emperor Temple with its live ceremonial performance, ascend Buxu Mountain on foot or by cable car for panoramic views, photograph the classic 'old farmer leading an ox' at Zhutan Mountain, the viral Rock Cavern Bookhouse in a former quarry, and the red cliffs of Xiao Chibi. In the evening transfer to the riverside artists' village of Guyan Huaxiang, your base for the next two nights, and enjoy the old lanes, river breeze and small bars at leisure. In firefly season a magical evening firefly walk may be offered. Meals: L (Jinyun snacks). Overnight: Guyan Huaxiang (night 1 of 2).

Day 2: Ou River Dawn, Yunhe Terraces (or Yunzhong Daji) & Guyan Huaxiang

Start at the Ou River for the chance of a misty dawn and the romantic fishing-net display, then breakfast back at the guesthouse. This morning you choose your adventure: the Yunhe rice terraces, with the rippling 'Nine Bends' and the Chinese National Geographic cover scene of Kengen Stone Village; or the She-minority highlands of Yunzhong Daji, home to the ancient wooden Shisi Temple seen in 'Black Myth: Wukong', the Snowflake Waterfall, and a 1,500-year-old, 47-meter cedar known as the King of Asian Cedars. In the afternoon return to Guyan Huaxiang to walk the painting village of Dagangtou and ferry to Yantou with its ancient camphor grove, stacked water bridge and Tongji weir. Drive back to your village stay for a free evening. Meals: free/AA. Overnight: Guyan Huaxiang (night 2 of 2).

Day 3: Songyang Ancient Villages & Departure

After breakfast, drive into the 'hidden Jiangnan' of Songyang, whose remote, mountain-clinging villages preserve a rare traditional character. Visit Yangjiatang, where rows of red roofs and yellow walls resemble a cluster of medieval castles; Chenjiapu, home to a cliff-top branch of Librairie Avant-Garde, named by CNN among the world's most beautiful bookstores; and a viewpoint over cloud-wrapped Xikeng village, especially dreamlike on misty days. Enjoy lunch at leisure, then begin the relaxed journey back, arriving at Lishui high-speed rail station around 15:00 for departure (book trains for 16:00 or later). Meals: free/AA. Overnight: not included.
